Covering over 2,400 miles, three time zones, and eight states, Route 66 connected Chicago to Los Angeles. Established
in 1926, it was a road of dreams, transporting millions to the promise of riches in the West. It was a road of commerce, with
motels, diners, gas stations, and neon to advertise it all. America's love affair with the highway started on the route that
John Steinbeck dubbed the "mother road."
Jack Kerouac wrote "get you kicks, on route 66" and the road gained an anthem. But Route 66 itself
is a song of America that tells of where we have been and what remains of four past. If you exist the modern non-stop
interstates, one can still experience the small now hidden towns where the highway became Main Street, and glimpse a bit of yesterday.
